Megan Sherwood Cello
Megan Sherwood (cello) studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin with Bill Butt, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance degree and a Diploma in Music Teaching and Performance. From an early age she showed promise, winning several scholarships and awards.
Dublin born cellist Megan Sherwood studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin with Bill Butt, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance degree and a Diploma in Music Teaching and Performance. From an early age she showed promise, winning several scholarships and awards as a student and performing and leading cello sections in the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland. In her professional career, Megan has performed all over the world in various ensembles and orchestras as a free-lance musician. Her path has taken her all over the USA, Canada, Nigeria, China, across Europe, the UK and Ireland, performing nationwide in each. Recent engagements include a tour to China with the Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the Expo in Shanghai and Beijing, and she spent three years as solo cellist with the World Billboard Charts number 1 selling group “Celtic Thunder” in the US and Canada. During this time they performed and sold out arenas coast to coast and notably sold out Radio City Music Hall in NYC 3 times. Megan is a keen chamber musician in both the classical and baroque eras but also extends her interest to popular culture music and is regularly seen performing and recording with various bands and singers such as The Coronas, Fight Like Apes, Duke Special, Kanye West,Westlife, Tom Baxter, Colm Wilkinson, Celtic Tenors, Celtic Thunder, Red Hurley, Il Divo, Phil Coulter, The Devlins, Katherine Jenkins, Vyvienne Long, Jenny Lindfors, Julie Feeney, Ronnie Drew, Sinead O’Connor, Enrique Iglesius, Scott Maher, Doug Sheridan, Roberta Howett (of xfactor), to name a few!
